When You Feel Overlooked
“The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.”
Matthew 21:42 (NLT)
There’s a quiet ache that lives inside a lot of people. It’s not loud. It doesn’t scream for attention. But it’s there. It’s the ache of being overlooked.
You show up. You work hard. You pray. You try to do what’s right. But somehow, it feels like you keep getting passed by. Passed over. Passed around. Like everyone else gets the spotlight while you’re stuck in the shadows.
Maybe it’s in your workplace. Maybe it’s in your family. Maybe it’s in your church, where your hands are faithful but your name is never called. You wonder if anyone sees. You wonder if God sees.
Let me tell you something from the heart of Scripture: being overlooked by man does not mean you’re overlooked by God.
When David was anointed king, he wasn’t even invited to the line-up. His own father didn’t consider him worthy of consideration. Samuel had to ask, “Are these all the sons you have?” Only then did Jesse mention the youngest, the one stuck out in the fields. But that shepherd boy? He was God’s choice. God saw what no one else bothered to look for.
God sees you too.
He sees your faithfulness when no one claps. He sees your pain when no one asks. He sees the nights you cry yourself to sleep and the mornings you get up anyway.
Jesus Himself was the stone the builders rejected. They examined Him and decided He didn’t fit. But the very one they cast aside became the cornerstone of everything God was building.
So if you’ve ever felt discarded, passed over, unwanted or invisible, take heart. You’re not behind. You’re not disqualified. You’re not forgotten.
You’re being carved into something strong. Something foundational.
The God who sees sparrows fall and numbers every hair on your head has not lost sight of you. He’s shaping your story in hidden places. And when the time is right, He will bring you forward—not to make you famous, but to make Himself known through you.
Keep serving. Keep believing. Keep standing in the shadows if that’s where He’s called you for now. Because God does some of His best work in the quiet corners of the world.
And one day, what man overlooked, God will establish.
Scripture to Hold Onto:
“Humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time He will lift you up in honor.”
1 Peter 5:6 (NLT)
